Humuani Alaga was the Ibadan player of the textile industry, born in 1907 to a trader mother with whom she went on several trading trips in the south-western parts of Nigeria, as a kid. Alaga became one of the first registered customers when foreign firms established branches in Ibadan in 1932. As a specialist in textiles, she advised these firms on the designs and texture of goods intended for local markets. In the 1950s she was chosen leader of Ibadan women traders. As one, she mentored young ladies who showed interest in trading. She became late in 1993.
