Obinna Uzor; Businessman and politician, born March 17, 1963, Uzor founded GOCUZ, a trading outfit which grew to a conglomerate. Uzor was governorship candidate in the state on the platform of the National Democratic Party, NDP. Later, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and he was touted replacement of Governor Ngige in the anticipated event of his removal from office through the tribunal[i]. Obinna Uzor went to Abhor Boys Secondary School and University of Lagos, where he studied marketing[ii].
Like most very successful businessmen he has shown his large-heartedness in several ways in the past especially in his home state, Anambra. He set up the Obinna Uzor Foundation (OUF) through which he has embarked on some high impact charitable initiative. Most notable is the donation of a N350 million students’ hostel. A 110-room, 3-storey edifice which is located at the Holy Family Youth Village, Awka., Anambra State, it could be described as Uzobs flagship project. He was motivated to build such gigantic edifice after witnessing the squalor in one university campus, once upon a visit; he has built because he wants Nigerian students to have a taste of the real thing instead of the prevailing squalor that is pervasive all over the country. Before this hostel, he had built a church in his native town; he built the Law Faculty buildings in Madonna University and renovated the Eni Njoku Hall Hall at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2012 he also handed over the JUT centre he built at the Seminary, Onitsha, Anambra State. Obuinna Uzor has been quite active but for a politician who clearly has eyes for high offices in his state his motives are often parsed[iii].
