Muhammadu Dildto Yusuf or MD Yusuf; was the only Nigerian politician who established his own political party to challenge a military self-succession agenda. He served as Inspector General of Police from 1976 to 1979. Yusuf was chairman of Nigeria LNG in 1994 when a consortium led by Halliburton was bidding for a contract to construct an LNG export facility in competition with the United States corporation, Bechtel. He headed a left wing oriented organization during the period of transition to democracy launched by General Sani Abacha in 1997-1998[i].
Yusuf, born on November 10, 1931, schooled at Katsina Provincial School, Katsina, School for Arabic Studies, Kano, 1947, Institute of Administration, Zaria (1952-1953) and Christ Church College (Oxford University) where he obtained higher educational qualifications. He was seconded to the Police Force as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in 1962. He was the police IG between 1975 and 1979. He is an awardee of the GCFR.
