Federal Government Girls College Akure was established in October 1977 with an initial population of 72 students in Oke Aro, an Akure suburb. FEGGICOLA, as it is often called, has a strong boarding culture with two headmistresses overseeing each of the five boarding houses. Expectedly, it dominated many schools in its region for a long time, being a reticent, resident all-girls institution. The school has since its first decade moved to Owo Road in Akure.
