Nkemafor Nonyerem Chikwe; Nigerian politician and founding member of the People’s Democratic Party PDP. She was born in 1947 and graduated from Queens College of City University, USA in French Language. Chikwe came from the academia, being a lecturer to be appointed the Nigerian minister of Transport in 1999. She was later moved in a cabinet shakeup to head a problematic Aviation Ministry. It was during her tenure as Aviation minister that the ailing Nigeria Airways was liquidated bringing about massive loss of jobs. Through her tumultuous tenure, she scored a point in 2002 with the nation’s airports passenger traffic rising to three million- a record never before attained.
During President Obasanjo’s second term, Chikwe was appointed the head of the board of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). She held the post till she decided to run for the Imo State gubernatorial post
